Eggs or No Eggs?

I'm tired of that question! Maggie is always asking "Do horses lay eggs?" or saying "Bears lay eggs!" etc. We finally made a chart to help her remember the different types of animals and which ones lay eggs. First, we colored animals of all different types. I used printable coloring book pages that I pasted into Paint and shrank down.

Then we made signs that said "Eggs" and "No Eggs" as well as labels for the different types of animals. Mammals (the only no eggs), Birds, Fish, Bugs (to include insects, spiders etc.), Amphibians, Reptiles, and Dinosaurs (and Pterosaurs).

Then we sorted all of our animal pictures into the correct category.

Maggie insisted that we glue the animals onto a boat (a la Noah). We didn't have a big enough paper for one big boat, so I finally convinced her to make two boats, one for Mammals and one for egg-laying animals.

Here they are! Next time she asks if an animal lays eggs, we can print a picture of it and add it to one of our charts.

We'll cover the duck-billed platypus another day.

Two separate boats for sorting was a great idea.
