Muppets Halloween Costumes

The crocheted Muppets hats provided a fun challenge this year, with some different textures and shapes than usual.

Sword in the Stone Halloween Costumes

Super fun Sword in the Stone Halloween Costumes. I loved making these.  Maggie, of course, is rewearing the owl costume I made her in 2nd grade.

Toy Story Halloween Costumes

Toy Story! Loved our costumes this year.
John: Buzz Lightyear
Susie: Jessie
Maggie: Rex
Dalton: Hamm
Sienna: Barbie
Arthur: Slinky Dog

Crocheted hats as usual. Except for Barbie, who was all set with her blond.

And Jessie, who dyed her hair.

Buzz Lightyear:
I did iron on with felt for the shirt, and for the wings, which also had stiff stabilizer in the middle, and elastic straps.  John also had crocheted gloves.

Jessie: Felt ironed onto an old t shirt, and hand embroidered red swirls.  I sewed the cow fabric onto an old pair of jeans, and added big felt tabs to the side of the chaps.

Rex:  The tail was made the same way as the dinosaur tail I made Maggie when they were 3. The hardest part of this costume was finding a green shirt in the right color.

Hamm: I tacked the brown felt circle on the front, and a black rectangle on the back, so I could snip them off and he could wear the shirt normally after Halloween.

Barbie:  Sienna's leotard and leggings were ordered from Amazon.  We added a pink fold-over-elastic belt, and pink lipstick.

Slinky Dog: Once again, Arthur is wearing plain brown pajamas for his Halloween costume.  The slinky is foam tubing I ordered on Amazon.  I sewed it on each side.  It tended to rip where sewn through, and I had to do repairs between Halloween events, but we made it through the season.  He also had a foam tail with a felt oval sewn on the end, sewn into his pants for a tail.

Homemade Halloween: Aladdin Family Costumes

We saved our Aladdin theme for this year when we could go to the Disney party again.  John: Genie, Me: Jasmine, Maggie: Magic Carpet, Dalton: Aladdin, Sienna: Rajah, Arthur: Abu

I crocheted all the hats of course.  This is the closest we've come to all six of us having a crocheted hat.

Nearly everything else is from Amazon.

Genie: ostrich feathers on ribbon, rolled up for the boop.  Crocheted wrist bands.
Jasmine: borrowed the necklace, earrings are from Walmart.
Magic Carpet: Used iron on adhesive (Heat n Bond) to add felt shapes to a pair of sweats.  Made tassels out of yarn.  Also, the hat isn't quite my usual pattern.  I did back loops only, and did it in a spiral shape, instead of chaining up each round, to make it look like coiled rope.
Aladdin and Abu vests are loosely traced from Simplicity 1509. The Aladdin pants were what I agonized most over.  In the end, they took about a half hour to make. Once I got brave enough to just cut what I thought would work, and add some elastic.
Rajah: Fabric painted the stripes on, and used Heat n Bond to add the white belly.
Rajah and Abu tails: I cut out a tail shape, sewed it into a tube, stuffed it with fluff and a piece of wire hanger, and sewed it to an elastic waistband.

Halloween Costumes: Food

This year we took a loss on our Halloween costumes. We didn't want to use one of our great theme ideas when we wouldn't get to use our costumes much, and then we actually got to use them even less than we thought.  But they turned out cute, mostly thanks to my friend who made all of the girls' headbands.

Knott's Taste of Fall-o-Ween

We went with our best neighbors to the Knott's taste of Fall-o-Ween event. And I'm so glad we did because it turned out to be pretty much the only Halloween fun we had.
