Utah Field House of Natural History and Vernal

Before driving home on Monday, we went to the Utah Field House of Natural History in Vernal. We also saw their 4th (5th) of July parade. This was a pretty awesome museum (the parade was lame). The dinosaur gardens left something to be desired, but the exhibits were interesting and well-laid out, and there was a lot of hands on stuff for Maggie to do.Utah raptor.Maggie likes Stegosaurus. There have been a lot found around here, so he was well-featured.
Allosaurus - also highly featured.
Diplodosaurus - world's longest dinosaur. It was his birthday!
Uncovering a sauropod foot.
We also walked around the Vernal Temple after dinner one night.

Dinosaur National Monument

We only spent one day actually in the park. The visitor's center is closed (it was built on unstable soil and has basically cracked in half, haha) so you can't see the quarry with 1500 dino bones sticking out. We did the fossil discovery trail...
Tail vertebrae.
hiked into a box canyon...Became Junior Rangers! Dalton would not take the badge out of his mouth.
Maggie completed her workbook and earned a Junior Paleontologist patch.
and did a couple auto tours where we learned about geology.

McConkie Ranch Petroglyphs

This was a great 1 mile hike up and along these petroglyph-covered cliffs about 20 minutes outside of Vernal. Highly recommended. The petroglyphs were remarkable and the hike was great. Maggie hiked the whole thing.

Dino Kitch

We just got back from a trip to Vernal, Utah, aka Dinosaurland. First up: Dino Kitch.
And, the grande finale... Rodeo Dino.
And Bonus Kitch from Dinosaur Colorado.
